Hong Kong, China
The brief for this financial office, set on two floors of a soulless modern building, was to design a space that felt like a high-end apartment or boutique hotel – not a corporate headquarters. Based on local research in museums and antique shops, we started from scratch to design furniture and fittings rooted in Chinese design.
The flooring is made from antique Elm. Bespoke furniture, the motifs inspired by antiques, was also made locally. Architectural detailing, such as sliding doors, conceals the office technology. On a separate floor dedicated to client services, we designed a coffee bar made from solid oak: a modern twist on the traditional Chinese tea shop
“The design language used in Hong Kong was inspired by our clients’ London Headquarters - a space I had created with them in a previous collaboration. This new environment was enriched with details inspired by Asia, expressed with carefully selected, locally sourced materials.” Murude
